Kitesurfing and Windsurfing

Tarifa has established itself among the top three windsurfing spots in the world.  Recommendations for courses, book in advance of arrival:

Windsurfing - Mistral at Valdevaqueros

Kitesurfing – There are many kiteschools along the beaches or in town, and they are constantly changing.  Best to look in the comments book in the houses for previous people´s comments or go with one of the outfits at Valdevaqueros or ARTEVIDA

Bird Watching

Keen bird watchers need step no further than the terrace. The houses are directly under one of the most important bird migration routes between Europe and Africa, and from October to June you’ll see flocks of storks, lesser kestrels, short-toed eagles, Egyptian vultures, sparrowhawks, red and black kites, marsh and Montagu’s harriers, ospreys, buzzards, booted eagles and more. Ornthitological centre just outside of Tarifa on main motorway (N340 Algeciras side).

Hiking and Cycling

The houses are within the Natural Cork forest so one can set off on foot from the house for wonderful walks and breathtaking views. A new track has opened up in 2009 15 metres from the house on the ridge of the mountain, which is fantastic for mountain biking.

Try the company GIRASOL in town for rental bikes and climbing info.

Deep - Sea Fishing

A lot of the tuna caught from the straits is taken directly to Japan; needless to say some of the best tuna in the world can be caught in these waters. Trips can be organised in Tarifa or directly through us.

Scuba Diving

Interesting wreck dives off Tarifa island and from Gibraltar.

Lessons and hacks along the beach or in the hills can be organised by the riding stables at The Hurricane Hotel, Hotel Dos Mares and 100% Fun. Ponies are available for children.

Rock Climbing

GIRASOL is an adventure company based in Tarifa town that will organise local climbs.

Montenmedio Golf Course is approximately 25 minutes away near Vejer de la Frontera.

A fast ferry leaves from Tarifa port several times a day for Tangiers (55€ return). Why not spend a day wandering around the souks, have the set menu at the very special Restaurant Populaire Saveur Specialites en Poissons.

Enjoy live music and an Ibiza atmosphere at Arte Vida; beautiful girls and surfers at Valdevaqueros or venture north towards Punta Paloma and Bolonia and you’ll be able to walk to some gorgeous secluded coves. For windier days head to Bolonia for delicious fresh fish on the beach and the atmospheric Brazilian beach bars.

There are tennis courts that can be booked at Hotel Dos Mares and Hotel Punta Sur. Lessons are also available.

Jerez – Visit the sherry bodegas (1 hour away).

Seville – Stunning city especially renowned for its Easter processions and Fair in April (2 hours away).

Cadiz – Carnival in February and generally a wonderful city to visit on the sea (45 minutes away).
